Neonatal Lupus is a congenital syndrome that occurs because of the transplacentary transmission of antibodies anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB. These antibodies act in the fetus leading to cardiac, hepatic, hematologic, dermatologic, pulmonary and neurologic alterations. The cardiac manifestations are the most serious. The Congenital Cardiac Blockage is the most severe complication and it can lead to a condition that needs a pacemaker implantation or to death. Therefore, the premature diagnostic of the Neonatal Lupus is extremely important, allowing a correct follow up of the patient and the conduct that is more adequate.
